Unleash the Power of Diverse Volunteering!
New research highlights an under appreciated gem in the fight for good: racially marginalised individuals (32%) more likely to volunteer than the general public (21%) [Source: NFPSYNERGY LIMITED]
Yet, volunteering organisations are struggling to fill their ranks. Is it overdue time to rethink our approach?
We can't afford to miss out on this incredible pool of talent and passion. Yet, I fear we consistently do.
Here's the call to action:
Segment your outreach:
Stop treating volunteers as one big group. Tailor your message and opportunities to resonate with racially marginalised and faith communities. If you are not adapting your marketing and the volunteer experience you will be missing wonderful people.
Embrace inclusion:
Create welcoming and diverse teams where everyone feels valued and respected. Listen to your volunteers and adapt the experience; empower people and adjust to THEIR needs, not just those of your organisation.
Market with purpose:
Showcase the impact volunteers have on your cause, and highlight the ways your organisation fosters a sense of belonging.
Invest in volunteering strategy:
You would not expect fundraising to reach new audiences without strategic investment of time and money, so you should not expect volunteering to either.
Let's break the mold of "one-size-fits-all" volunteering. By focusing on diverse recruitment and inclusive teams, we can unlock a wave of support for our causes!
